Hey there, my name is Kerry.  I’m a Travel Advisor and a self-proclaimed Travel Mentor.  When I tell family/friends I’m a Travel Advisor my opening line is “COVID made me do it…”.  Instead of watching Tiger King, getting a COVID puppy, or making bread I was researching how to become a Travel Advisor.  (Please note I call myself a Travel Advisor because in my mind a Travel Agent is an older woman sitting in an office on Main St. in small-town America who hands you a glossy travel brochure and a piece of hard candy on your way out…I’m hipper than that).

After seeing my friend and fellow Travel Advisor, Molly, posting about various tropical destinations I decided to call her and get her advice.  She encouraged me to do it and said I have a unique niche and plenty of interesting experiences to share.  I must note this decision doesn’t come totally out of the blue because while a junior at Plymouth State I talked about wanting to be in the travel business and aspired to be Julie McCoy, the infamous Cruise Director on the Love Boat for all you young people.  It took me 20+ years from sitting at the kitchen table at 54 Langdon St. in Plymouth, NH to deciding to bite the bullet and just do it…even during a pandemic.

Like so many people I love to travel!! I’ve been to 22 counties, 5 continents, and numerous Wonders of the World.  My travel bug was kicked into overdrive 9 years ago when I was going through some scary health stuff and stuck in a hospital bed for 15 days.  This gave me A LOT of time to think and dissect my life i.e., what I was doing and not doing.  My conclusion…I was wasting too many years saying “when I get married my husband and I will do X, Y, Z”.  Well, there’s no hubby in the picture so my adventures began, and many have been solo.  My solo adventures include sailing the Irish Sea, crossing the English Channel twice, and climbing over the Sydney Harbor Bridge just to name a few.  I’ve ziplined over the rainforest in Costa Rica and conquered the Great Wall of China four times with friends.  People may think my new sense of adventure is an early midlife crisis, but I assure you when life hands you a plate of crap you send it back and demand the best Filet Mignon.

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know I always incorporate adventures in my travels hence I call myself a “Tourcal”.  Definition of “Tourcal” is a tourist that lives like a local.  For example – when in Ireland I went to the Guinness Factory and the Cliffs of Mohr like every other tourist in the country, but I also took a 5-day live onboard offshore sailing class, visited numerous village pubs, and went to a Gaelic football match.  Let’s not overlook in Ireland the most sacred activities are frequenting pubs and watching sports (football, Gaelic football, and hurling specifically).  To take it one step further my friend Sarah and I went to the world-famous Lisdoonvarna Match Making Festival…unfortunately I didn’t find a match.  I’ll give myself an “A” for effort.

Adventures Await Travel has two objectives: turn your vacation dreams into reality and help you step out of your comfort zone…literally and figuratively.  Along with my travel services, I’ll have a blog.  I hope it will be a witty, entertaining, and informative blog created to share my stories and insight into places near and far.
